SONA of 2009


The State of the Nation Address of President Arroyo that was a major event on this 27th day of July 2009 presented mostly of the achievements of President Gloria Macapal Arroyo since the start of her term in 2001 until this recent point in time. In her SONA, she highlighted what her government was able to achieve such as the good status of our economy and how her government was able to uplift our country in terms of projects and reforms in the field of tourism, agriculture, telecommunication, agriculture, ect.

The 9th State of the Nation Address of President Arrroyo stated her reason why she became a president not only of popularity but because of her will to work, to lead, to protect and preserve our country. She also said that her government was able to surpass a lot of trials such as how the she was criticized by a lot of people for its policies, crises that our country encountered and even bad issues about the our country. But our country was able to surpass these problems through the aid of doing the right thing, taking seriously the responsibility and because of the loyalty and undying support of the Congress. She also compared the past and her present government like they built more and better infrastructures and according to her this includes those that are started by others but left unfinished. The major prime example of this infrastructure is Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway which models the proper way of building better roads and how it creates wealth as the flagship of the Subic-Clark corridor. Another infrastructure are airports of international standard, upgraded domestic airports, built seaports and the RORO system. PGMA said that in her term she was able to solve the problem of the strong, bitter and unpopular revenue measures of the past few years which have spared our country the worst of the global financial shocks.
In the field of telecommunications, her government acted on the problem of problem of dropped calls and unexplained lost of load. PGMA also said that today we are creating wealth by developing the BPO and tourism sectors as additional engines of growth. Electronics and other manufactured exports rise and fall in accordance with the state of the world economy. But BPO remains resilient. With earnings of $6 billion and employment of 600,000, the BPO phenomenon speaks eloquently of our competitiveness and productivity.

She also added that her reforms gave us the resources to protect our people, our financial system and our economy from the worst of shocks that the best in the west failed to anticipate. President Arroyo also said that our preference is to invest in projects with the same stimulus effects but also with long-term contributions to national progress. One of the hot topics that the Pres. Arroyo cleared in her SONA was that she doesn’t want to extend her term.

As a summary, the SONA of our Pres. Talks about how our country have built a strong economy in a strong fiscal position to withstand political shocks, built new modern infrastructure and completed unfinished ones, how our economy is more fair to the poor than ever before and how we are building a sound base for the next generation.
